Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

This website is operated by Legal Lighthouse, Advocates & Consultants, New Delhi, India (“the firm”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal data we collect through this website and through the contact details published on it, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have in relation to it. It has been prepared with reference to the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

2. Personal data we collect

2.1 The enquiry form

When you submit the enquiry form on this website, we collect your name and telephone number, which are required, and your email address, the practice area you select, and the description of your matter, which you provide at your option. We also record the IP address from which the enquiry is sent.

2.2 Email, telephone and WhatsApp

If you contact us by email, telephone or WhatsApp using the details published on this website, we receive whatever personal data you choose to share with us in that communication.

2.3 Job and internship applications

If you apply for a position or an internship, we receive your CV, covering note, writing samples and any other material you send, together with your contact details.

2.4 Technical data

Our hosting provider’s servers automatically log technical information about each visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is standard for any website and is used for security and to keep the site running.

3. Why we use your personal data

We use the personal data described above only for the following purposes:

  • to respond to your enquiry and to assess whether the firm is able to assist you;
  • to carry out a conflict check before any engagement;
  • to consider your application, if you have applied for a position or an internship;
  • to limit repeated submissions of the enquiry form and to detect misuse of it, for which purpose we use your IP address; and
  • to comply with our legal and professional obligations.

We process this data because you have voluntarily provided it to us for these specified purposes. We do not use it for marketing, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to build profiles of visitors.

4. Confidentiality

We treat every enquiry as confidential. However, submitting an enquiry, or contacting us by any other means, does not by itself create a lawyer-client relationship. That relationship arises only after a conflict check has been completed and an engagement letter has been signed. Until then, please do not send us confidential information that you would not wish to be disclosed.

5. Who we share it with

We do not share your personal data with anyone except the following, and only to the extent necessary:

  • Our hosting provider, which stores this website and the enquiries submitted through it on its servers.
  • Our email service providers, through which enquiry notifications and our correspondence with you are delivered.
  • Google, which serves the fonts used on this website. When a page loads, your browser requests these fonts from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address.
  • WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to contact us through WhatsApp. Your use of WhatsApp is governed by its own privacy policy.
  • Public authorities, where we are required to disclose information by law or by the order of a court or competent authority.

Some of these providers may process data on servers located outside India.

6. Cookies and browser storage

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. This website stores two small entries in your browser’s local storage: one records that you have acknowledged the Bar Council of India notice, so that it is not shown to you on every page, and the other records your choice on the cookie notice. Neither entry contains any personal data. You may clear them at any time through your browser settings.

7. How long we keep your personal data

  • Enquiries that do not lead to an engagement are deleted within twelve months of our last communication with you.
  • Where an enquiry leads to an engagement, the information becomes part of the matter file and is retained for as long as our professional obligations require.
  • Job and internship applications are retained for twelve months, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
  • Server logs are retained by our hosting provider in accordance with its own retention practices.

8. Security

Enquiries submitted through this website are stored in a restricted area of the site that is not publicly accessible, and are transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Access is limited to the firm. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the personal data we hold.

9. Your rights

Subject to the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may:

  • ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we have processed it;
  • ask us to correct, complete or update your personal data;
  • ask us to erase your personal data, where we are not required to retain it;
  • raise a grievance with us about the way your personal data has been handled; and
  • nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity.

To exercise any of these rights, write to us at the address given in section 12. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

10. Children

This website is not directed at persons under the age of 18. If you are under 18 and need legal assistance, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us on your behalf.
